What is the CGI Hazard Perception Test?
The car Theory Test comprises of two sections. There is a 50 question, multiple choice Theory test and a CGR Hazard Perception Test. After the Theory Test you will be given a break of up to 3 minutes before you sit the Hazard Perception Test.
The current pass mark for the Hazard Perception Test is 44 out of 75.
The CGI (computer generated imagery) hazard perception test shows how you will be developing your skills needed for this test while you are learning to drive. In each clip during the test there are hazards just like those that you will see on the road. Some of the hazards develop. These are the ones that might cause you to slow down or change direction. Just like on the road some are hazards that you just have to keep an eye on in case the situation changes. Others will develop. These are the ones that your response will be measured on. You will score points for clicking when you see these develop. During the test watch the clips and click the mouse as soon as you spot a clue to any hazard. You will need to click again each time you think the situation changes. As you click you will see a red flag appear at the bottom of the screen to register your click. When you click the clip will not stop running.
During the test you will be shown 14 clips which have at least one scored hazard. One of them will have 2 scored hazards so you will need to keep concentrating and clicking to gain maximum points.
You will need to click for all of the hazards that you see. Your response is measured from when the hazard starts to develop. Your highest score will count. Earliest responses score 5. Then 4, 3, 2, 1, to 0 for those too late or missed completely.
Watch the clips as though you are the driver. Concentrate and click as soon as you see any clues. You will need to click again each time the situation changes. There may be more than one of these in the clip.
Don’t try to cheat by pressing the mouse button without any thought to what you see. If you do you may lose your score for that clip. At the end of the test you will be given the result by one of the Test Centre staff.
